  • They are in grades K-12.

  • Their family’s household income is $33,500 or less in both 2019 and 2020.

  • Their family will file a Minnesota tax return.

Families may also want to consult the more extensive list of eligibility requirements.

If you need assistance with the application or have questions, please contact KOOTASCA Community Action by calling

What is MAA?

MAA helps eligible families receive a significant discount on afterschool and summer activities in the Itasca Area by utilizing the K-12 Education Tax Credit. MAA makes a no-interest advance to you for the amount of the tax credit, and then state dollars automatically repay the advance when you file your taxes at the end of the year.

Can you explain more about how the MAA free offer works?

Sure! Here’s a helpful graphic that outlines the MAA process from start to finish. Typically, a family is responsible for paying the 25% of the activity cost that isn’t covered by MAA and the K-12 Education Tax Credit (as shown in the graphic). But, Youthprise will scholarship that 25% for your first activity this fall. The result is that you pay absolutely nothing out of pocket!

What happens if I want to enroll my student in more than one activity?

That’s great! The free offer is only valid for one activity, but you can enroll your student in more activities through MAA and still enjoy the 75% off we typically provide.
