What is MAA?

Minnesota Afterschool Advance (MAA) helps eligible families receive a significant discount on afterschool and summer activities in the Itasca Area by utilizing the K-12 Education Tax Credit. MAA makes a no-interest loan to you for the amount of the tax credit, and then state dollars automatically repay the loan when you file your taxes at the end of the year.

How does it work?

  1. Find an Activity

Visit our list of current offerings to see the current programs and activities available in the Itasca Area through MAA.

  2. Apply to MAA

Before you can register your student for an activity through MAA, you must apply through our website or in-person by making an appointment with KOOTASCA at (218)-999-0800.

  3. Register for the Activity and Pay Your Discounted Price

Is my student eligible?

Students are generally eligible if:

  • They are in grades K-12.

  • Their family’s household income is $33,500 or less in both 2018 and 2019.

  • Their family will file a Minnesota tax return.
