Minnesota Afterschool Advance Funders

Minnesota Afterschool Advance is proud to have the support of a number of private funders who support the loan fund and the operation of our program. No government dollars are used for the administration of MAA or the loan fund.

Major Funders

In May 2021, Thrivent Charitable Impact & Investing announced a grant of up to $1 million to accelerate the growth of MAA. This grant represents the largest gift to MAA to date and will help us bring the MAA model to scale.

"Every child deserves quality education and enrichment. Opportunity and access, small or large, can change lives. I know this from my own life growing up in the Frogtown neighborhood of St. Paul and seeing and experiencing what happens with and without it. One opportunity can change a life, and one life can change the world. This is our shared future; it is absolutely worth investing in.” - Mandy Tuong, President & CEO of Thrivent Charitable.

The initial seed funding for MAA in 2018 came through a Social Innovation Grant from the Bush Foundation, which provided $210,000 over two years. This grant allowed us to build and test the MAA model and prove its effectiveness in helping low-income youth access out-of-school time programming and educational computer hardware.
