Description: In tap class, students will learn the fundamental and progressive tap sounds and steps leading to advanced rhythms and syncopation. Emphasis is placed on clarity of tap sounds, weight shifts, and rhythms. Tap is one of the oldest dance forms in this country. Students are taught rhythms, timing, and leg/foot coordination done to various types of music. We teach all types of tap from standard basics like “Singing in the Rain” to funky rhythm tap as seen in “Bring In Da Noise.” Students will receive well-rounded knowledge of all types of tap. In Jazz, students will learn the elements of isolation, syncopation, strength, rhythm, contraction and expansion. The movement explores a range of styles in both lyrical and percussive disciplines with a focus on jazz elements such as isolations, swing, and rhythm. The goal is to develop dancers who are expressive, dynamic, musical and passionate. Each style with culminate in choreographed dances learned to perform in the spring recital.
